Short of Saliva

Today we had come to the enzymes experiment; to investigate the effect of temperature on enzymes catalyzed reaction. The most common type of enzymes that we used is amylase as the supply can easily obtained, that is, from our saliva.

However, it doesn't mean that we can provide 7.5 ml of saliva in about 30 minutes. I can be the earliest person who spitted saliva into measuring cylinder but also the one who got least amount of saliva due to my disability to create saliva...lol. Having difficulty in providing enough saliva made me so TENSED!

From this experiment, I learned that different people would have different concentration and ability to provide the "enzyme". I believed this limited ability of mine is most probably due to the lack of drinking water; I only drank half glass of water the whole morning and I didnt bring mineral water as well.

As we were lacking of time, we were allowed to use only 3.0 ml of saliva to be diluted. So here, I would like to express my gratitude to Pyng Jing and Ai Ping who had kindly provide me saliva ^^ Without your help, I cant be able to carry out the experiment with my 1ml of saliva. Thank you.


pss: guess i hav to drink more water...
